Everyone has the right to live comfortably in their own skin and be who they’re meant to be. I consider it a privilege to assist anyone in the transgender/gender-expansive community with their journey. I’m a Certified Transgender Care Therapist through the International Transgender Certification Association (ITCA) and a member of the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH), following its Standards of Care for the Health of Transsexual, Transgender and Gender-Nonconforming People. I also work with the cross-dressing population.
ADULTS: I work with clients at all stages of transition: From self-exploration and self-acceptance to coming out to family, friends and work; and provide therapy for anxiety, depression, trauma or other co-existing issues that may exist from social pressures or being unable to transition. I provide coping skills, support and education in a safe and nurturing environment where clients are free to express themselves for who they truly are. I offer resources and referrals, as well as carry letters, letters for name changes, letters for hormone replacement therapy and letters for sexual-reassignment surgery.
PARENTS AND CHILDREN: Parents of transgender or gender-expansive (not fitting neatly into the male or female role) kids have a particularly crucial role to play. Research dictates that supportiveness significantly impacts children’s self-esteem and positive life outlook, while rejecting children is directly correlated to more depression and suicides. It’s imperative that your child knows he or she is not alone on this journey. And neither are you. I can help with education, support and resources.
SPOUSES AND FAMILY MEMBERS: Spouses, partners and close friends of transgender individuals often face their own hurt, confusion and struggles when coming to terms with their loved one’s gender identity (the gender felt inside) and gender expression (the gender presented to the world). I provide education, support and understanding in a safe and supportive environment, and help explain how best to support your loved one through their transition.
SUPPORT GROUP: Members of the transgender and gender-nonconforming community, as well as their family members and allies, are invited to attend a support group held on the second Friday of every month at 7 p.m. Groups take place at the Boca Raton Community Center, Queen Palm East Room, 150 Crawford Blvd., Boca Raton, FL 33432. The fee is $5 and refreshments are served. Call 954-657-3151 for more information.
